Amazon is building a one-million-square-foot fulfilment centre in Leduc County, just south of Edmonton.
In a announcement on Monday, ONE Properties and TD Greystone Asset Management said the facility will be developed on 58 acres of land within Border Business Park, a development at the centre of Alberta’s industrial hub. This will be Amazon’s second fulfilment centre in Alberta. The first one is in Balzac, just outside Calgary.
Officials said the project will create about 700 jobs over the term of the construction project and 600 new jobs for people who will pick, pack and ship items to customers such as books, electronics, toys and more. The facility is scheduled to open in early 2020.
Border Business Park has been developed in recent years by TD Greystone in partnership with ONE Properties. The Park is situated on the border of the City of Edmonton and Leduc County, directly north of Nisku.

Glenn Sommerville, director of Amazon operations in Canada, said its ability to create 600 jobs is because of a network of support the company has received and the skilled workforce in the region.
“We’re grateful for the welcome we’ve received from government and community leaders and excited by our growth in Alberta and ability to better serve our customers,” he said.
